SATELLITE 2016 Announces Addition of Doug Loverro, Emily Calandrelli, and Charles Beames Rockville, MD. – Friday, November 20, 2015 –The producers of SATELLITE are pleased to announce the addition of Doug Loverro, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, Emily Calandrelli, Producer and Host of FOX’s “Xploration Outer Space” TV show, and Charles “Chuck” Beames, Executive Director at Vulcan Aerospace and Board Member of Spaceflight Industries to the program. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy, Doug Loverro has joined the SATELLITE 2016 conference program as a featured speaker for our opening day workshop, “A Satellite Acquisition Model for the Modern Age: Enabling Service Men and Women Anywhere, Anytime”, on Monday, March 7. The workshop will center on how ‘SATCOM as a Service’ allows for access on demand to satellite capability, end-to-end, to include transponders, equipment terminals, backhaul, capacity, features. Mr. Loverro is credited with a long list of accomplishments in aerospace development, including the invention of the supersonic chemical oxygen-iodine laser, initiation of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Global Broadcast Service, and championing the push for greater use of commercial manufacturing and capabilities for future DoD space and launch systems. Emily Calandrelli, producer and host of FOX’s Xploration Outer Space TV show, will be co-moderating the Global Launch Services panel with Via Satellite‘s Caleb Henry on Wednesday, March 9. Xploration Outer Space is a nationally syndicated, STEM education block TV show that shows viewers the most exciting projects in the space industry today. Emily has won a number of national awards for her leadership in science, including the Goldwater Scholarship and the Truman Scholarship and has been profiled in Cosmopolitan and the Boston Globe. Charles “Chuck” Beames, Executive Director at Vulcan Aerospace and Board Member of Spaceflight Industries, will be the Luncheon Keynote speaker for the Finance Forum. Mr. Beames brings a unique combination of leadership and expertise in space and military systems, engineering, legislative affairs and business. His 30-year legacy in the U.S. Department of Defense includes the development and deployment of transformational airborne, ground- and space-based systems. At Vulcan Aerospace, he is responsible for creating and executing the strategic plan to realize Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s vision of revolutionizing space transportation. Prior to joining Vulcan, Beames was a member of the Senior Executive Service and last served as the Principal Director, Space and Intelligence to the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, where he provided acquisition and technical oversight of a $90B space portfolio for the U.S. Department of Defense. Early in his career, he was designated a National Academy of Engineering “Top 100 Young Engineers in the U.S.” and is a recipient of both the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award and the Defense Superior Service Medal.
