Via Satellite Announces Michel de Rosen, Chairman and CEO, Eutelsat, Satellite Executive of the Year 2015
Via Satellite Announces Michel de Rosen, Chairman and CEO, Eutelsat, Satellite Executive of the Year 2015 ROCKVILLE, Md. – February 10, 2016 — Michel de Rosen, the Chairman and CEO of Eutelsat, has been named Via Satellite’s Satellite Executive of the Year for 2015. In 2009, Michel de Rosen became the CEO of Eutelsat, when the company was a regional operator looking for its place in the satellite world. Since then, de Rosen has built the company to be a truly global powerhouse with a strong presence in Latin America and Asia, and has been at the forefront of technology changes, constantly pushing the envelope in areas such as electric propulsion and High Throughput Satellites, to name but two. While it is sometimes easier to look at de Rosen’s achievements in a 5-6 year context, his final year as CEO of Eutelsat has really taken Eutelsat for a spin. Linking up with Facebook to bring satellite connectivity to Africa has undoubtedly been one of the deals this past year that has the potential to be a huge game changer in the satellite community. This is one example of de Rosen’s determination to make a difference that was key to successfully closing this deal. For a ‘traditional’ FSS operator, the company does some really interesting deals. Another example last year was a deal Eutelsat did with a company called Sigfox. Sigfox is rolling out a global network for the Internet of Things, and will deploy satellite technology developed by Eutelsat to further enhance service levels on its infrastructure. The company has also performed impressively financially and operationally, and in 2015 has again seen net profits and overall revenues have strong increases. In its annual results released in late July, the company showed a strong financial performance. Its revenues for the year to the end of June were up almost 10 percent on a reported basis compared to the same stage year before. Net profits were also up significantly compared to the previous year. “In his six years at the helm of Eutelsat, Michel de Rosen has transformed Eutelsat from a semi-regional operator to a more global operator than ever before, ” said Mark Holmes, Editorial Director for Via Satellite. “He has had a huge impact, not just on Eutelsat, but the industry as a whole. But, his influence goes beyond the numbers, and the global expansion. De Rosen has been one of the driving forces behind the satellite industry mobilizing itself ahead of WRC-2015. He has left an indelible mark on the industry, and thanks to a number of factors, he was chosen for our Satellite Executive of the Year for 2015.” “It is an honour to accept this Award and to share it with the men and women at Eutelsat who work with passion, intelligence and enthusiasm to make our company great and give our customers the best possible service, ” said Michel de Rosen. “I consider myself privileged to be part of an industry that combines the highest of high technologies with adventure. We may not be the biggest of industries but our impact is huge, enabling broadcasters, telcos, Internet companies, enterprises, aid organisations and governments to connect billions of people around the world. Geo is certainly cool, as is the space business at large. It’s an exceptionally rewarding sector, one with a great future and one I am proud to work in.” For 30 years, Via Satellite magazine has been honoring the satellite executives who made a lasting business impact on the global satellite market during the previous calendar year. Via Satellite magazine will showcase de Rosen in its “Satellite Executive of the Year” cover feature in the March issue. Michel de Rosen will be presented with his award at the Satellite Executive of the Year award luncheon on Wednesday, March 9, and a reception that will be held that evening. Both events take place during the SATELLITE 2016 Conference and Exhibition, which runs March 7-10 at the Gaylord National Convention Center at 201 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD.
